You know it’s a good wedding when the weather is perfect, the guests won’t come inside after cocktail hour, and the linens are so good you kinda want to pet them.
Hey, I’m Abby—a wedding planner, designer, and professional overthinker of table layouts. I’ve been doing this for 12+ years, and Lauren + Burke’s day still has me cheesy smiling. It was full of sentimental family moments, synced-up style, and design moments that made my detail-loving heart very happy.
Let me show you what made this wedding at Hickory Hills Country Club so special.

Getting Ready
Lauren was able to get ready in her parent’s home, just a golf cart ride away from Hickory Hills Country Club. One of my favorite moments of the day was when Jill, her mom, pulled out her own wedding album and all the bridesmaids gathered around in their matching PJs to see. It was like ‘Father of the Bride’ perfect.
Another precious detail is that Winston, Lauren and Burke’s son, I mean dog! got to join in on the getting ready fun. He means so much to them so this was beyond sweet.

Ceremony at St. Agnes Cathedral
Lauren and Burke got married at St. Agnes Cathedral, which holds a lot of meaning for Lauren’s family. They’re super involved in the church, and their Catholic faith is a big part of their lives. The reception was at Hickory Hills Country Club, where Lauren’s family has been longtime members. She grew up going to parties and events there, so it felt like the perfect, sentimental choice—like hosting your wedding in a place that already feels like home.

Portraits at Hickory Hills Country Club Springfield MO
This was the most perfect fall day—sunny, 60s, crisp in the morning, and full-on patio weather by the afternoon. Guests did not want to come inside after cocktail hour because it was just that beautiful. While they found their seats we took some sunset photos with Lauren, Burke and the wedding party. This was such a carefree, happy moment!

Reception Design for Hickory Hills Ballroom
Design-wise, there were two things we knew we wanted from the start: pattern and a custom crest. We had this vision of mixing prints in a way that still felt classic and clean. The blue patterned linens from Stradley Davidson were even better in person—so full of texture and interest. Bonus: a few months after we picked them, Laura Ritchie (one of my fave event designers) used the exact same ones. She has no idea, but it really bonded us.
The custom watercolor crest tied everything together. It pulled in all our colors—blue, green, sand, silver—and gave us a great fallback when pattern felt like too much. It showed up everywhere: on the invites, in the signage, even on the band backdrop. A real MVP.
But honestly? One of my favorite moments of the whole day was showing Lauren and Burke their reception space. We had built so much trust and had so much fun along the way that I knew they were going to love it. And when they did—it was magic. One of the most fun, rewarding moments of my career.

Dress Change and Cheers!
Now let’s talk about her reception look. Lauren wore a dress made from her mom’s wedding gown—that her mom also made herself (!!). She threw on sneakers and a boa and honestly? She crushed it.
These cute booth photos are a reinactment of the absolute sweetest moment shared between Lauren and Burke as they prepared to greet their guests and got to just revel in the moment of being married. They later told me that was one of the most special moments of the day for them.
